Illustration History Class: Nat White

Illustrationmundo.com 19 Mar 2010, 12:33 am CET

Nat White illustrated a wonderful series of 1950s ads I absolutely adore for the Stokely Van Camps Company.

What only recently came to light is that he was also responsible for a decade-long unsigned ad campaign Union Carbide ran during the same time period. On my blog, Today’s Inspiration, I cheekily dubbed this series the “Hand o’ God” ads… and just found out that a Brooklyn longshoreman was White’s ‘hand model’.

The artist spotted him while eating lunch in a Hamburger Express in Long Island and exclaimed to his wife, “there they are, the hands!”
